The Cherished Child Doula

Cherishing your Inner... and New Child!

Your Birth Doula serving Greater Denver, CO.

"We don't have to do all of it alone, we were never meant to." ~Brené Brown

Meet your doula, Sarah Hartmann, RN, BSN, CD(DONA)!

I am a DONA® International Certified Birth Doula in Denver, CO and I believe everyone deserves a doula!

I chose the name “Cherished Child” because I’ve done a lot of work with trauma, C-PTSD, codependency and generational hurts and believe that your inner child is just as deserving of love and support as the new child you are bringing into the world.  I believe that vulnerability is strength… and birth can and will make us vulnerable!  I became a doula in 2023, a DONA Certified Doula in 2024, accepted as a CO Medicaid Doula Provider in 2024 and also graduated from Regis University Accelerated Nursing School in 2024!

Together, we can create an empowering and positive birth experience… one that you will love talking about for decades!

What is a Birth Doula and how am I different from a Midwife?

A birth doula is a trained professional who offers education, resources, emotional support and encouragement before, during and after birth.  We hail from the old days when birthing people were surrounded by other women and midwives in an intimate setting… before we switched to the Doctors in a hospital model.  A birth doula does not perform any medical care, so I get to focus on the birthing person and their partner while healthcare providers do their work.  Midwives are clinically trained medical professionals who may deliver babies and perform other necessary healthcare.  My clients usually choose between using a Midwife or Doctor, with me in addition by their side to ensure they are as taken care of as baby.

Why do you need a Birth Doula if you have a partner?

Having a partner available to help you during labor is a wonderful thing!  They most likely know you on a deeper level than a doula ever can… how you like to be comforted with sound and touch, what makes you nervous or exhilarated, how to motivate you when you’re down.  However, most partners are not experienced birth workers and can become nervous and uncomfortable when they see their loved one in the throes of labor.  A Birth Doula is an expert when it comes to birth, its stages, struggles and coping methods.  Together, your partner and doula will have all everything covered for you, the star of the show!   Plus your partner can relax about remembering breathing techniques and hot rice socks, becoming free to focus on the birth of their child as well!

Testimonials

“I had the privilege of getting to know Sarah over several days when she took my doula training. It was obvious to me that she is a truly kind, nurturing person. She seems to instinctively know how to read the room and take necessary action to assure everyone feels safe and comfortable. These qualities, along with her dedication and excellent communication skills will make her a wonderful doula for any family lucky enough to work with her.

“Sarah was amazing to have there with us. She is so kind and caring, and I don’t know what we would have done without her helping us bring our first child into the world. 10/10 would love to have her there again in the future.

“Sarah was a really wonderful doula for my family during delivery. She gave us space when we needed it but advocated for us super well to help us achieve our goals. I really appreciated the way she supported my husband being the primary person I was able to go to for support in the moment. She was so great at equipping him to be what I needed and encouraging both of us throughout the whole process. She is very trustworthy. When things weren’t going our way, because she knew we wanted to avoid induction, she gently helped us try all the different avenues to get my body to progress in a natural way before we pivoted. Because of Sarah’s help, we were able to achieve a healthy delivery knowing that we had tried everything we could to do it as naturally as possible. In short – I don’t think we would have walked out of the hospital with as much confidence had Sarah not been there that day. I’m so grateful she was!

“Sarah did such an amazing job the moment she walked through the door. My wife was distressed throughout the entire labor and Sarah was actively engaged to make sure my wife was as comfortable as possible with everything going on in the delivery room and properly advocating for her to make the best informed decisions.

“I can’t express enough how grateful we are for Sarah’s support during our childbirth. From the very beginning, Sarah was an incredible source of knowledge, comfort, and reassurance. Her calm and nurturing presence made all the difference during a time that can be both exciting and overwhelming.

During labor, she was an absolute rock, offering gentle encouragement, pain relief techniques, and unwavering support for both me and my partner. What I appreciated the most was her genuine care and compassion, and her ability to create a serene and positive environment.

If you’re looking for a doula who is not only highly skilled but also deeply committed to your well-being, I wholeheartedly recommend Sarah. She made our birthing experience more peaceful and positive. We feel incredibly fortunate to have had her by our side.

“Sarah was an amazing doula! With having my first baby and not knowing all that comes with labor and having a newborn she helped me tremendously with having the delivery I had always dreamed of and what I would need to expect with caring for my new baby girl! I would recommend her to anyone and everyone !
